REPRESENTATIVE/SELECTED RECORDINGS OF MUSIC BY DOUGLAS HEDWIG
"Hodie Canamus" by Douglas Hedwig
I. Introit II. Gladness and Delight III. Psalmus in Confessione
Composed for and in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Orvieto Musica, and was premiered June 24, 2018 at the Orvieto Cathedral, Italy.
Hodie Canamus is an 8-minute, three-sectioned composition in what may be described as a "Neo-Renaissance" style. Although "neo-classical" is the more commonly accepted term to desribe music based on, and/or directly inspired by music of an earlier era (such as the ballet music for "Pulcinella" by Igor Stravinsky), this current work draws specifically on the rich musical traditions of the Italian Renaissance.
This work is for chorus, vocal soloists, strings, piano, timpani and multiple trumpet ensembles.
